Maybe surprisingly given recent form and the fact that Harpenden had been tough opposition at the start of the season, Tring eased into the Semi-Finals of the Charity Shield with a comprehensive 3-1 victory at Cow Lane.
New signing from Berko, Hedley Ogbebor, was drafted in to start and his physical presence was felt at centre half straight away. An area that had been lacking maybe with Doc out of the side with injury.
The lads took the lead with a razor sharp counter on 4 minutes. Deer rose to head away a corner. The excellent Shepherd looped an imperious ball over the top to Max Hercules and he surged towards goal and fired home.
Euphoria in the stands was short lived as Harpenden cut through the Tring defence way way too easily and equalised with a shot under Souter on 11 mins. Fans feared the worst but Tring held their nerve and were competitive for the rest of the half.
Going down the slope towards the raucous Tring Ultras at the Pendley Manor End , the lads appeared to find some real form in the 2nd half. On 55, Chamberlain jinked in the box and was denied by a good save - and then headed over from a Max Hercules cross 2 mins later.
Max is really finding his form at the moment, and, despite his diminutive stature, rose to head Tring back into the lead at the far post from a Harvey cross on 67 minutes.
The Tring Army faithful were nervous about clinging on to this lead but, to be honest, Souter was rarely troubled in goal.
George Carbery sealed the deal in injury time. Frankie Hercules robbed a defender, Smyth had a shot blocked and Carbs fired home. His recent goal scoring record makes you think Tring have inherited someone of the ilk of Graeme Sharp or Daniel Amokachi. Long may it continue.
The lads are in the semis.
