Silver Lining at County Ground.
A strong team performance saw the lads run out 4-0 winners in the Herts Charity Shield last night at the County Ground – It’s great for the club to lift some silverware.
The match started in quite a cagey manor with both teams reluctant to over commit to attack, but both teams played some fine football. Ben spurned an early chance and the young Jets keeper, who looks a real prospect, made a couple of excellent saves to deny us. We seemed to be suffering from a problem that has troubled us all season – not taking our chances when we have them. On 30mins that changed when the ball came out to Max after something of a scramble in the box, and Max dispatched it very well into the roof of the net. So 1-0 at half time and some concern amongst the Tring faithful as to whether that would be enough.
They need not have worried as the lads put in a commanding performance in the second half. Sheps added a second with a bullet header after some excellent work down the right from Jack, his cross was superb. Sheps was on the scoresheet again shortly afterwards when he latched on to a loose ball and scored a screamer from 25 yards – what a goal. The nights scoring was completed by Carbs who coolly slotted a penalty in usual fashion after Max had drawn a foul in the box. So final score 4-0.
Jets also deserve much praise for their part in a good cup final that was played in the right spirit. They are a young side who like to play good football and did so throughout the game, never giving up and could of grabbed a goal or two themselves. They were a credit to John Elliott and his team who run such a great club.
The team can be rightly proud of this achievement and their fine run of form continues – they really do look a good side right now. We are now in the final run in to the season end and it promises to be an exciting couple of weeks as we search for more silverware. Onwards!
