BAD DAY AT THE OFFICE
The above was a comment made in an official tweet and its hard to disagree with this sentiment. After a good run of form with just one defeat in our last 8 games (and that came courtesy of a late goal at Biggleswade United) we fell well below our normal standards against a plucky London Colney side that has had a tough season.
Our guests came into the game propping up the table with just 2 league wins all season and baring a miracle look certain to be relegated but they played well and took their chances and probably deserved their victory based on their second half performance.
We were well below par but we had our chances, particularly in the first half when we hit the woodwork twice and missed a penalty. We did rouse ourselves after going 3-1 behind with just 7 minutes of normal time left and did pull a goal back but we ran out of time.
We had a sloppy start when we gave the ball away in our area after only 3 minutes and we were perhaps a bit fortunate that the Referee waved away the appeals from the opposition for a penalty. That was balanced up 12 minutes later when we had an appeal turned down by the official when Godlove Oppong appeared to be pushed over in the area.
We went mighty close to opening the scoring in the 6th minute when Godie hit the bar and then unbelievably Davide Pobbe followed up and hit the post. In the 23rd minute some great play from Luke Peerless released Godie who was tripped in the area for an obvious penalty. Up stepped George Carbery but the keeper made a good save.
The game became scrappy but with half time looming our opponents took a shock lead when a free kick seemed to take a deflection and wrong foot Lewis Todd. Score 0-1. Fortunately we quickly bounced back following a handball by an opposition defender and this time George Carbery made no mistake to level the scores just before the Referee blew for half time. HT Score 1-1.
We had a great chance to take the lead just before the hour mark when the ball fell kindly to Godlove Oppong in the area following a corner. Normally Godie would put away these chances but this time he was unable to get enough power behind his shot.
The game seemed to drift a bit with neither side able to create much but in the 64th minute our opponents produced a superb move down the left and when the ball was cut back from the bye line they had a player available to tuck the chance away. Score 1-2. We made some substitutions to liven things up but we received another blow in the 83rd minute when we gave away a penalty which our opponents converted to give them a commanding lead. Score 1-3.
We made some changes and at last we started to play with some urgency and we pulled a goal back a minute into time added on. George Wainwright started the move which released Eli Hearn who cleverly clipped the ball past the keeper with Seppe Delgaudio making sure the ball crossed the line. Score 2-3.
Unfortunately we ran out of time and London Colney were able to claim all three points. A very disappointing performance and result but there is no time to dwell on it because we have a tough local derby at Leverstock Green on Easter Monday when hopefully we can get back to winning ways again. FT Score 2-3.
Godlove Oppong was awarded Man of the Match.
