OUR POOR RUN OF FORM CONTINUES
Well that was a week we would not want to see repeated again with three heavy defeats. In mitigation we have faced the team at the top of the table and two teams that will be many people’s favourites to finish in the top two, but even so there was a feeling we didn’t do ourselves any justice although we were missing a number of key players.
Real Bedford were promoted to the Premier Division after winning the Division 1 title last season. They have an interesting history having been formed in 2002 following the merger of Bedford United and US Valerio. The club was taken over by bitcoin podcaster Peter McCormack who stated that he intended for the club to reach the Premier League.
They have invested heavily in new players and the gamble is paying off because in this writer’s opinion they are the best side I have seen for a long time and if I was a betting man I would put money on them to win the League and get promoted (that’s likely to put the mockers on them!!)
The game was effectively over by half time with our opponents scoring in the 10th (Ben Stevens), 34th (Archie Joseph Jones) and 36th minute (Edward Corbit). They added a 4th in the 54th minute through Joe Evans with his 10th goal from 8 games. It is a sign of a good side when they share out the goals and they are clearly on form having notched up 24 goals in their last 5 games.
We did improve in the second half and had a couple of half chances but we didn’t really force their keeper into serious action. It was a disappointing day but we are not going to play many teams of this calibre and fortunately over the nest few weeks we will playing against teams lower down the table starting with a visit to Stansted on Saturday, when hopefully we will have some players back.
